The Passive Voice |
|
| |
- In a passive structure, the subject undergoes the action of the verb rather than performing the action:
- Active: The employees do those chores.
- Passive: Those chores are done by the employees.
- Spanish uses the passive much the same way as English does, but uses it less, often preferring an active or impersonal structure, or one using the pronoun se.

THE SER PASSIVE |
|
| |
Sometimes called the "true" passive, this structure uses ser in the appropriate tense, followed by a past particicle that agrees with the subject. The agent (persons or things performing the action) may or may not be expressed; when it is, it is preceded by the preposition por. |
